Cast & Crew Open Call for a new Livestream Show!
My crazy idea to smoosh TV, actual plays and fake shady studios into a new channel
Why hello there dear folxs from the internet! I wanted to send this out far and wide so everyone has a chance to see it and determine if ya’ll are interested in our call for cast and for a new actual play livestream show. Well here are some things you need to know about it before you decide to apply or not -
The System - TV the RPG
For the show we will be using the TV the RPG system created by Little Red Goblin Games. This is a system designed to embrace, enhance and full on go hog wild in the world of TV and movie tropes. You can easily play anything from Space Opera to Telenovela to gritty Western. It is a very flexible system that will also allow us to explore a lot of different types of stories without being rules or mechanics heavy. A copy of the PDF will be purchased for all cast members who are brought onto the show.
The Channel - Paracosm Entertainment
Our universe is run by the fictional film production studio Paracosm Entertainment. They run all the programming and control what the masses do or don’t see just as any shadowy studio executives would. Their branding is everywhere and they often try to make sure that the ratings are high on all of their programming.
The Programming - Studio Headliner
The first show on the channel is going to be a program called ‘Studio Headliner’. We will go into the premises in greater detail below but essentially this program time is a placeholder for the current show and season of Paracosm Entertainment’s latest attempt at a hit. The show and season may change which means low ratings may mean the studio heads ax the current show for a chance at a better one.
The Livestream Show
The livestream show will work by using 3 episode types:
- Pitch Sessions
- Session 0s
- Season Episodes
Pitch Sessions
The cast will all get together in Paracosm Entertainment HQ to pitch the ideas of a potential show. The audience will chime in with their own ideas or things to add in the chat, and together we will brainstorm out 3 show options. The studio honchos will then summarize each show and let the audience vote on which show gets picked up. This doesn’t mean we won’t eventually play all of them, just that this is the one we will start with. Anytime a show is canceled, we will have another pitch session.
Cast members are encouraged to campaign for shows they want to see happen and the channel will support and run any or all of those.
Session 0s
Each time a new show has been picked up we will have a Session 0 to clarify and reinforce the channel's rules, our safety tools and rules, and give the cast a chance to get used to their new roles for the upcoming show. Think of this like a pilot episode - it may look slightly different than the rest of the show depending on if characters and the world need to be reworked slightly to fit better. Like the first-ever pilot episode of Star Trek vs what it ended up being moving forward.
Season Episodes
Once the show launches we will go for 12 episodes (1 episode a week) with a mid season break after episode 6, which will be 1-3 weeks long depending on the schedules of the cast. During the mid season break we will run one shots in the system to show off the breadth of the system possibilities to generate ideas for future pitch episodes. At the end of each season of a show the audience will vote on if the current show should be picked up for another season or canceled. If its canceled then we will move back into a Pitch Session and a Session 0. This does mean later on if there is an outcry to bring back an earlier show that we may bring back either a reboot, a continuation or an alt version (think Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood or Sailor Moon Crystal).
Cast members are encouraged to campaign for shows they want to see another season of and the channel will support and run any or all of those.
The Casting Call
So if you have made it this far then congrats! We are looking to encourage a diverse cast, starting with a single show on the channel with hopes of expanding as our fan base grows. If you aren’t selected for this first show please know that we will keep your info to reach back out when we do future casting calls as well. Before we send you over to the form to fill out for the casting call I wanted to make a few things clear that didn’t have a good place to be placed in the rest of the document.
At the start of the channel we will not be able to pay cast members but as the audience base grows, merch is established, etc cast members in front of and crew behind the cameras will be compensated. I know its alot to ask someone to give up time without being paid but we will work with cross-promotions and anything else we can to try and help with that load till the channel is in a spot to pay its cast.
Once selected as a cast member in addition to the Pitch, Session 0 and Season Episodes that will all be live streamed we will also have a private Session 0 to go over the safety tools we will be using during the stream as well as getting to know each other for chemistry purposes. Your comfort and safety are paramount to us above all else so we want to bring that to the forefront in a private setting so you don’t feel like you are on display for that.
Should we get way more interest than we anticipate then we may need to do small one-shots to test the chemistry of different cast rosters. You can see this mentioned again in the form as we discuss the genres these one-shots can take. Some of these will also be live streamed and used to boost both the knowledge of the system and of the channel, some of these will be kept private.
Crew Positions available
- Producer - someone that runs OBS / stream when we are live
- Chat Moderators - people to keep an eye on chat and keep the community clean and safe
- Lore Master - Someone to track all the lore generated during the episodes that I don’t have a chance to note down as I am running the game
Apply now!
If all this sounds great to you then head on over to our Studio Headliner Cast Submission Form or the Studio Headliner Crew Submission Form and fill it out! Once the casting calls close we will take 2-3 weeks to review all of the applications and begin reaching out to potential cast and crew members to start discussions around scheduling and confirming interest.
