Introducing your DM Dalliance
Okay so lets get the obvious question out of the way - what is a DM Dalliance and why did I pick it as a name for this blog? Well my point in this blog is to show that not only can anyone can be a DM but that everyone SHOULD BE one. Even if just for a one shot. Being a DM teaches you a whole skill set that actually improves your interactions with people, your ability to handle change, trains you to think on your feet, and so many other things I'm sure I'll talk about in greater detail. I've been a DM in various system on and off for almost 15 years at this point. I've traveled through the realms of 3.5e D&D, survived the dark days of 4e by finding shelter in Pathfinder. I've tackled purely improve games like Lasers & Feelings, Noirlandia, and more. I have dived into the more indie side of things with games like TV the RPG and Doodle Dice Monsters (both made by Little Red Goblin Games so - holla~).
This I guess gives me a voice of experience but I can admit that even after all this time I'm still learning and growing as a DM as well. However I'd love to share my experiences, my stories and occasionally my unsolicited input to any it might help. Especially because of my identity as a person not just a DM. I'm a queer lady - pause for gasps of indignation and blowing up of my comments section... This has often times meant that I haven't felt the most welcome as a player at the table. Because lets face it nerd gating white dudes aren't the most welcoming to people they have to consider the feelings of. *comments section explodes* So I became a DM in large part to make sure my tables were never like some of the ones I've experienced. I wanted everyone, no matter there plethora of identities and backgrounds, to feel welcome. ITS A FREAKING FANTASY GAME PEOPLE THE WORLD CAN CONTAIN ANYTHING YOU WANT. But I digress slightly, that's a post for another time.
So what will you find in this blog? That's pretty easy. All things roleplaying games - I'll talk about DM tips, strategies, homebrew rules and items. I'll discuss handling interplayer conflict at the gaming table. I'll cover some hobby builds like minis and set pieces, since I've recently divided into that head first. More important to how I view this world of storytelling, I'll also be trying to interact with you (the amazing community) alot to answer any and all questions you may have. But on top of all of that and probably many more things I'm forgetting at the moment, I'm going to talk about the roleplaying games we love and not only how they are for everyone but how to SHOW with absolute certainty that anyone is welcome at your table by how your game and its world present itself.
With that little rambling over with, I'm JustKay your regular DM Dalliance on the web and I'll see you next post.
